History
Before the advent of VLS, the Tomahawk Land Attack Missile needed a surface ship launch platform. After concept of a angled quadruple launcher, similar of those with AGM-84 Harpoon, the Mk 143 Armoured Box Launcher was developped and used operationally. They were added to some refitted US NAVY vessels in the 1980s, such as, the Iowa class Battleships.

- CGN-9 (Aegis conversion)
- CGN-38 to CGN-41 (Virginia class cruisers)
- BB-61 to 64 (Iowa class in their 1980s refit)
