Mk 143 Armoured Box Launcher
History
Before the advent of VLS, the Tomahawk Land Attack Missile needed a surface ship launch platform. First a concept of a angled quadruple launcher, similar of those with AGM-84 Harpoon, was studied. But a new launcher system name the Mk 143 Armoured Box Launcher was developped and used operationally. They were added to some refitted US NAVY vessels in the 1980s, such as the Iowa class Battleships.
