RIM-116 RAM
History
The RIM-116 Rolling Airframe Missile (RAM) was a joint development by the US Navy and Germany resulting in a small lightweight surface to air missile for point defence against anti-ship missiles. RAM is fired from an Mk 49 RAM launcher, from the SeaRAM launcher or (block 2 only) the Mk 41 VLS.
RAM was developed from 1976 onwards and was first tested on board the USS David R. Ray in the late 1980's. It was operational on German Navy ships from 1992 onwards.
