The Fuyutsuki class was the kantai navis second class guided missile destroyer unlike the previous Isonami class which itself was merely a conversion of an already existing destroy class, The Fuyutsuki class however was designed from the Ground Up to be a guided missile Destroyer from the start, the first of the class Fuyutsuki was commissioned in 1960 with a Total of 15 ships in the class would be constructed from 1957 to 1967. General characteristics

  • Installed power: 2 shafts; 2× Babcock & Wilcox boilers, geared steam turbines, 35,000 shp

  • 1 × single 5"/42 (127mm) gun
  • 2 x twin 40mm MK1 4cm/56 (40mm) guns
  • 1 x MK 11 GMLS
  • 2 x single 0.50"Browning

  • 1 × single 5"/54 caliber Oto-Breda Compact Gun (127mm) gun
  • 2 x single TYPE 78 CIWS (20mm) guns
  • 1 x TYPE 78 VLS Mk 1
  • 2 x single 0.50"Browning

The class would ultimately serve from the early 60s up until the late 80s the last of the class Okitsukaze was decommissioned on 17th of October 1990.
