History

The HQ-61 (Chinese: 红旗-61) is a short-range SAM system developed by Shanghai No.2 Electromechanical Industry Bureau in 1965, adopted in 1988. The missile is 3.99m long, diameter 280mm, weight 300kg, effective range is 10km. The missile is guided by semi-active radar seeker, under illumination of ZL-1 illumination radar.

There are two types of launchers:

  • Type 723I rail launcher, used on Type 053K Jiangdong class. The launcher holds 2 ready missiles, extra 12 missiles are stored inside a belowdecks magazine.
  • H/EFB-02 tube launcher, used on Type 053H2G Jiangwei I class. The launcher holds 6 cylindrical boxes which are both missile containers and launch tubes. The boxes are extremely large due to non-foldable wings of the missiles.

  • Type 053H2G Jiangwei I class
