History

The Republic of Catarina was a very peaceful nation during the 19th century, but by the end of the century the navy of its neighboring countries were already more modern and prepared than that of the Republic of Catarina. With the approval of the government a small naval program was started. The Republic of Catarina Navy did not have infrastructure for the construction of a modern battleship so they sought a contract with a shipyard in Jasmine, and the Vidam Shipyards quickly saw an opportunity and offered various designs of different sizes and armaments. Design 171 was chosen and soon its construction started. Their previous major armament would be a 13.37 "artillery, but 1 year before completion the Catarina navy decided to change their armament to 12.34", which was offered from the second favorite design (Design 190), for economic reasons. This gun was also used as a kind of propaganda of the Vidam industries that were using their experience in the development of arms for the army in the navy, since they obtained a performance much better than those used by the Jasmine Navy.
