    Development

    After completing the Hai class submarines, LTK felt that the fleet needed submarines with far greater capability and range. Therefore the follow-on class was intended to be larger, 400t design with improved seaworthiness. In all respect, the emerging Ahven was the first true combat capable submarine in TTPL service.

    Service history

    Minor modifications between 1914-15, plans to replace the gasoline engines with diesel engines were canceled at the outbreak of the Great War. Taimen was sunk in 1915 in the battle of Woiche Straits.
