History
The 5"/38 Mk 12 gun was designed for new destroyers being build in the 1930's as dual purpose gun, but they ended up on nearly every major US warship built between 1934 and 1948 and was still used on new construction as late as the 1960's. Over it's operational lifetime these guns were fitted in various mountings.
