History
The AN/SPY-1 radar is an passive electronically scanned radar system and one of the key components of the AEGIS System. The SPY-1 was first installed on the test ship USS Norton Sound in 1973 and entered active service in 1983 on CG-47 Ticonderoga. While the first ships with the SPY-1 radar have already been decommissioned, new ships with the latest variants of these radars are still being ordered.
