History

The A272Mk1 was a variant of the Type 272/273 radar family (S Band). It was tested ashore in 1942, being able to detect surface targets at 45nm, sea trails started November of the same year. Entered service 1943, notably the radar could be installed with zero deck penetration. Wholly Australian made including components, considered more powerful than earlier Type 272 units, a replacement for the A272, the A276, was first trailed in May 1944, it is assumed it used the same "Lantern" as the A272.
