History
The Mk 68 GFCS (Gun Fire Control System) was first fitted on the Mitscher class in the early 1950's . It was in service unto at least the 2000's.
The Mk 68 GFCS uses 1 AN/SPG-53 fire control radar. In addition, the system works with information from the ships search radars for target acquisition and intercept. The system is commonly paired with the 5''/54 Mark 42 gun.
