History
The AN/SPQ-5 is an guidance radar developed for use with the RIM-2 Terrier missile. It was derived from the AN/SPG-49. This radar was first fitted on the Boston class missile conversion. The first installation was commissioned in in 1955. The AN/SPQ-5 was only used on missile converted ships, notably the Boston class and Providence class. From the Long Beach onward the SPG-55 guidance radar was used.
The last SPQ-5 radar was decommissioned together with the last providence class ship in 1974.
