Mk 8 Terrier GMLS.png

History

The Mk 8 GMLS was fitted on the Gearing class destroyer Gyatt in 1955, replacing the aft gun turrets. The installation was completely on-deck, with all modifications above main deck level.

The GMLS was used only with the early RIM-2A and RIM-2B Terrier missiles.

The magazine had an capacity of 14 missiles in two 7-missile ready service rings.

Part description

The drawing has the belowdeck installation drawn in, which requires covering for use on a finished Shipbucket drawing. The Terrier missile underneath the part drawing is oversized for detail, the missiles in the part are correctly sized. For clarity they are shown in blue (training round) colour.
