History
The Mk 25 GMLS was an launcher for the early RIM-7 Sea Sparrow missile. it was part of the BPDMS system. The launcher was in use in the US Navy from 1968 to 1980 on board the Knox class, Midway class, Blue Ridge class, Tarawa class, Iwo Jima class and the Japanese Shirane class
The launcher had an capacity of 8 missiles and was developed from the Mk 112 launcher. The launcher was required to be the size of the non-folding fins of the early Sea Sparrow missile, so the launcher was far larger then was required for it's installation on small ships, which the BPDMS was meant for. It was thus replaced by the Mk 29 GMLS in the IBPDMS program for all later installations.
