History
The Mk 45 Mod4 was a development of the 5''/54 Mark 45 for use with extended range projectiles.
The Mk 45 mounting is an unmanned system, controlled from the Mk 86 GFCS or the Mk 160 Gun Computing System. It can be used against surface or shore targets.
The Mk 45 has also been exported to Australia, New Zealand, Greece, Spain, Turkey and Thailand. It was further developed into the 5"/62 Mk 45 Mod 4.
The Mk 45 was first used in the Arleigh Burke class DDG-81, commissioned in 2000.
