History
SATAN was an proposal by Thompson-CSF for an active defensive system for small warships and an CIWS for larger warships. The active component was an modified EX-83 mounting, which was guided by an Castor IIJ fire control system. The fire control system could aim the EX-83 by radar or by camera guidance. An early warning radar, notably the Sea Tiger radar or the Triton radar, was used to detect incoming missiles or other targets.
