<br/>The Hughes AIM-4 Falcon was the first operational guided air-to-air missile of the United States Airforce. Development of the AIM-4 began in 1946, with the first tests starting in 1949, and entered service with the USAF in 1956. Due to its poor maneuverability and lack of a proximity fuze, the AIM-4 was not a very successful missile, and only five kills were scored using the AIM-4. The Falcon was produced in both a heat seeking and a radar guided version.<br/>
