History
The Marlin WS gun systems was originally designed and build by Oto Melara which is now Leonardo. Marlin WS stands for Modular Advanced Remotely controlled LIghtweight Naval Weapon Station. The first vessel to use the Marlin was the HNLMS Holland in 2011.
The Leonardo Marlin WS 25 or 30mm canon is used as main gun on small vessels and as secondary weapon on larger vessels. The Marlin WS system is highly modular and can be fitted with a 25mm ATK-M242 Oerlikon or 30mm Mauser Mk30-2 canon. The system so far has 3 versions, the standard one with no extra modules, a variant with 2 Mistral MANPAD SAM launcher which is named SIHAM3 and was developed by Leonardo, MBDA and SAKT. The other variant is one with a camera module and is currently in use by the Royal Netherlands Navy on the Holland class Oceangoing Patrol Vessels. Further more the Marlin can be used with its own Remote Controle Console or it can be intergrated into the ship's Combat Management System.
