History
The Mk 22 GMLS was fitted on the Brooke class frigate from 1966 onwards. The launcher was designed to have an similar ship impact as an 5''/38 Mk 30 gun mounting. The Mk 22 was basically an simplified Mk 13 installation, having only 16 missiles stored. Theoretically, it could fire any mix of RIM-24 Tartar, RIM-66 Standard MR and RGM-84 Harpoon missiles, but this seems never to have been done in service. As far as is known, the magazine was always filled with either Tartar or Standard missiles. The Mk 22 GMLS had an different launcher on top of the magazine then the Mk 13, called the Mk 123 singe arm Tartar launcher. It was different from the Mk 116 on the Mk 13 GMLS in the base: the Mk 123 rotates over the fixed magazine for reloading, while the Mk 116 rotates to load from either the inner or the outer ring of the Mk 13 magazine.

The drawing has the below deck installation drawn in, which requires covering for use on a finished Shipbucket drawing. Approximate deck levels around the launcher are drawn in red. The missiles underneath the part drawing are oversized for detail.
