History
The Mk 9 GMLS was fitted on the Providence class cruisers, which were rebuilds of Cleveland class cruisers. The first installation was commissioned in 1958. The last ship with an Mk 9 GMLS was decommissioned in 1979
The GMLS was used only with the early RIM-2A and RIM-2B Terrier missiles.
The Mk 9 is a missile launch system with the entire magazine above the main deck level. This allowed the ships hull to be left intact in the conversion. The magazine has place for 120 Terrier missiles. The footprint is very similar to that of the Mk 7 Talos GMLS, to allow conversion or redevelopment of the Cleveland class missile conversions if one missile was to be considered an failure or inferior to the other.

Part description
The drawing has the belowdeck installation drawn in, which requires covering for use on a finished Shipbucket drawing. The Terrier missile underneath the part drawing is oversized for detail, the missiles in the part are correctly sized. For clarity they are shown in blue (training round) colour.
