For some time (years really), the current Leander has always bothered me. It lacked detail, had too many weird radars as made by unknown and had poor shading and non-standard railings. Upon digging further I found it was too long and the Limbo was in the wrong place, the flightdeck was too long and so on.
So I've decided to redraw this fine class of ships, perhaps the finest frigate conceived during the 1950s and 1960s. It's been a tricky draw in many ways but with the help of some decent close-up photos and plans I give you the HMS Hermione, Batch III Broad-Beam Leander in July 1968.
Please don't bombard with requests for all one zillion variants of this class. I'll be doing more, mainly the 1980s upgrades at first and then maybe some foreign examples. I will not be re-doing the Van Speijk or the Godavari but if anyone wishes to do these two classes I have no objections and I guess Alex will be keen to redo Speijk.
