One of the most famous ships of WW2, USS
Yorktown CV-5 held the line at the start of the Pacific War. At Coral Sea, in May '42, her planes bombed the Japanese carrier
Shokaku while she herself took a bomb hit. Patched up at Pearl, she was sent out again to Midway, where she sank the
Soryu but was found by planes from
Hiryu when she was hit by bombs and torpoedos. She was abandoned and eventually sunk by Japanese sub
I-168.
I've had a go at updating the drawing that was originally drawn by Midnightnova. The drawing was slightly out of scale by 20 odd feet. This is USS Yorktown as she probably appeared after receiving her AA fit at the begining of 1938, for her shakedown cruise. She was comissioned in Sept 1937 wtihout her 4 X quad 1.1"/75 caliber guns and the 24 X .50cal Browning machine guns.
The drawing is 98% complete: I'm missing a bit of detail on the 5" directors, top down 1.1" quads and an update of the airwing.
I'm working on a Midway version and will try to do late war Enterprise and Hornet.
