I always wanted to see a Boeing 747 with a full upper deck and so here is one.

This is the LDC Model 003. It's for AU and is meant to be a new-build aircraft, built from the ground up intending to be a full upper deck 747.

It was made using the 747-400 and fitting in the engines of the 787-8. It's meant to be simple because well, I can't draw for lick.

It looks.......tall (duh), but otherwise, it's an interesting "what-if" idea.

It would fly, the original concept for the Boeing 747 was for a full-length upper deck.

The tail is just the same tail from the 747-400. I like the straight back look to it versus the tapered look. It's a bit C-5, a bit B-52, and a lot 747. Works for me.

That would be the 003-100F.

Well, it's not the "The tail is just the same tail from the 747-400" as You've increased height of the fuselage in that section, and by doing it You've also increased size of APU exhaust into a whole canyon.

And the actual proposals of the double-deck 747 had it bit different:
[ img ]

Some other (earlier) full-double-deck concepts of 747 had the upper deck literally for the full length (like on Your drawings), but they had also the horizontal stabilizer relatively higher (so the actual "height" of the fuselage in that section was similar to that on original 747's) - see more on Secretprojects.

I already showed that in the IRC yesterday to no avail eswube, Layarteb prefers the layout that he/she settled upon.
