Having once been asked if, after having done the German Types 101A and 101B classes, if I would also upgrade the Type 120, I demurred about it, saying "Maybe" to the inquiry. However, being a stay-at-home dad, does give you some time you need for a mental 'refresher' and since drawing and reseaching ships is that for me, so I did what I said "Maybe" to:

So, without further ado, here's the Federal German Navy's first substantial surface units after its constitution in 1955/56; the Type 120 aka Köln-class ASW-frigates, here represented by the F225 Braunschweig, which after a very successful career in the German Navy, was deleted in 1989, to be transferred, in 1992 to Turkey as D362 Gemlik, where she soldiered on for another decade, till replaced with name and all by an ex-USN OHP-frigate.

I think you got the directors a bit wrong: at least the aft 2 directors are dutch M44/45 directors, the forward ones I cannot find so fast (all pictures I look up of these ships have only one director forward :S) which looks indeed somewhat like what you have drawn. the brown bit at the end of the bofors mortar is a cover for the barrels, if you put this on I think you should cover the 40mm turrets too. the topmast deserves some update and the DA-02 radar should have an IFF bar on top. I also think the air intakes next to the mast look less crude on pictures, almost invisible on some or very dark grey in a square shape instead of separate hatches like you have drawn now.
keep an eye on the parts mentioned in the hamburg class thread.

I ask of you to prove me wrong. Not say I am wrong, but prove it, because then I will have learned something new.

Nice to see you drawing again Ari.

Those Koln class frigates were good looking ships, with that sheer forward and well balanced superstructure. You have captured those looks nicely.

I leave other more qualified to comment on the parts and fittings.

I think you are missing the credits for the CoA and your German flag is missing the bottom yellow stripe. Otherwise, it looks nice.

You know, DG, I knew there was something I've missed on this one. I just couldn't put my hand on it! Will fix those small errors! (As for the CoA, I think it has something to do with the fact that for the S-H and Hessen I actually sat down and drew their CoAs!)

There's no such thing as "nothing left to draw" If you can down 10 pints and draw, you're doing alright by my standards
