New shading guide is up
Post here if you have questions or ideas. This an intermediate one, Ill try to make more proper (more grey ;) ) and more clearer one in the future.

not to the style, and even this is not a "change" but more of a formalisation of the current practice.

Very good, makes perfect sense. Nice to see and surely pretty simple to follow.
I've always said good shading makes a drawing better. Folks should be thinking about shade and shadow almost as much as pixel counting.

I said this following the new style guide post, but it's better here. To the best of my knowledge, this shading guide does not (or should not) apply to submarine hulls. See Darthpanda's latest works for the state of the art for that special case of the shipbucket style.

Yeah, Submarines had devolped an unique style of their own. I need to collobrate with DP to make up similar tutorial for Submarine drawing...

When we will show a smooth bending on a ship we do it with a light an dark in same colour divided by an one pix line. But that line isn't really showing a smooth bending! If we extend the new shading with the colours in different nuances on each side of the bending, and then fill the inbetween line for line each time slightly darker (or lighter, depends on the way the bend goes) nuance, it will more proper show the bending ;)
I've added an example, where a comparison is viewed.

While this reproduces a photograph-like look more accurately, we long ago decided that it's better to keep it simple.

But you'll know, when you got an idea, it's not worthy to keep it for your self. But when it get's out in the air, others might not think it's a good idea. Fair enough :D
