Let's hope more wrecks are found in Pacific in the near future!

i heard, and i wish it was in a museum instead of 1000+ feet under water, it would be so cool. they built 3, and in my opinion the technology that the ussr wanted would soon be out of date with the advent of missiles.

ps. i hope the look for the USS Indianapolis before the last survivor dies

The main reason why they were expended as targets is because the USN couldn't use them and they were in such a state of disrepair anyway, they were pretty much floating scrap. This was pretty much the condition of every single IJN ship still afloat after the war.

The main reason klag' was that Soviets want those subs or even one of them as the prize of war. And in that time US was oblige to make that happen. Soviets were still an ally. But as relation between those nations start to be colder yanks don't want to give them that piece of pretty advance technology. That's why they need to go to Davy Jones locker.

EDIT: and those subs were in excellent condition.

True, but I think people give too much credit to the "SOVIETS RUIN EVERYTHING!!111!11" thing, like they just wanted to come in and ruin our post-war partying and all. I don't think the subs would've been preserved in either case.

No Italian, German, or Japanese ship from WWII was going to be preserved. As beautiful as the Littorios were, as famous as Prinz Eugen was, as deserving as Yukikaze was, and as infamous as Nagato was, there was simply no way.

I suppose the more than 30 preserved Kriegsmarine submarines preserved around the world doesn't count, nor the S-130 or the Gorch Fock?
Not to mention all the turrets that are littered around Europe.

Well klag' those I-400 were a masterpiece of submarine tech, something way more advance then any sub in US service. I wonder why yanks have not get one for them in secret, or maybe... they did. ;)
