I think we should get a bunch of random small nits together, on a sheet and have it for general erm...., quality because sometimes you just have an empty space, and it looks real weird and you need something to fill it with,so I think that would be a good idea

You should not be adding random details "just to fill space".

Even if it's an AU or never-built ship, you should know exactly what each pixel on the drawing is, what it does, and why it has been placed on the ship. To do anything otherwise is to be a Lazy Bastard and we already have enough of those around here.

I'm sure our parts control guys would be happy to compile some sheets of small parts and equipment but this should be done in the spirit of uniformity and completeness, not giving Lazy Bastards an easy way to BS their drawings.

Thank you for clarifying that , as that is really the intent, because some small things just aren't on parts sheets, etc.

The thread doesn't need to be removed, in fact it should remain as a warning to those who are Lazy Bastards. :P

I must confess, the reason I brought this up is, I was thinking, and i thought "having more fire extinguishers than crew, isn't that a bit excessive?"

"Greebling" is, in all honesty, the end-product of SFX laziness. It's important in SFX because you want to add visual interest, but not really put a lot of time and effort into it. When you're drawing ships, you want to put time and effort into it and make your details look purposeful.

A good example of greebling done right is in the original Star Wars trilogy. There are thousands of pictures on the 'net of the ship props they used and from the X-Wings to the Super Star Destroyer, at least at the scales and distances they were meant to be seen on-film, the details look purposeful and visually tell you the scale they are trying to portray. A bad example is, well, you don't have to look very hard at all.

There's no such thing as too many fire extinguishers.
