I've been watching some anime lately (which I love), however specifically a show called "C." Which is about money more or less, and gambling away ones future with it. Specifically, the show questions the idea of bailouts, and printing excess money to alleviate financial pressures.

I was googling around, reading various articles about the U.S deficit, and came across an article about a hypothetical economic collapse of the U.S.

I think this thread should be mostly about the U.S deficit.

I have no opinion on the matter.

What are yours?

Likewise, you have no opinion?

k...

Mainly I was just wanting to hear from some of the users who are more knowledgeable of economic systems, about whether this is a major issue or not, or just sensationalism in the media.

Because I honestly have no idea. Economics and politics isn't my forte.

If you really want to learn something about it try taking it to a more political oriented forum. Actually, take it to several different ones.
Bring your BS goggles and helmet.

I think that's a good reason for me to stay away from those types of forums.

2025?! More like 2015 IMAO. The US govt has racked up 14 trillion in debt since the end of WW2. Plus there's the 60+ trillion in Social Security and Medicade that aren't even paid for. There isn't enough wealth in the entire world that can be taxed or seized that can pay for this clusterfook. Don't forget that most of the state govts are in the red as well. Also the to give you a good idea of how the US dollar has gone down in value the exchange rate between US and Canadian dollars is almost 1 to 1. For decades the US dollar has always been much stronger than the Canadian. Also don't forget about the financial mess going on in the EU right now with Greece, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Portugal and Iceland.

Almost 1:1? Canadian dollar has been hovering happily a few cents above par for almost a year.

Yes my point exactly. Also the Aussie dollar has gained a lot of ground with the US dollar. Nations have been quietly getting rid of USD's and bonds also China and Russia have called for a new reserve currency to replace the USD.
