I've really slowed down on this project recently, been very busy working and also getting distracted by other drawings...

My Chinese AU begins with the assassination of Chairman Mao in the early 1960s, and a more moderate leadership takes the reins. The results of this are:
- No 'cultural revolution' that crippled parts of the PRC economy
- Increased military co-operation with USSR, resulting in more purchases of equipment (like the destroyers and frigates on the mid 1950s) and joint military projects.
- More Sino-Russian involvement in the Vietnam War, bringing the defeat of USA/South Vietnam earlier, and spreading communism by military conquest through Laos, Cambodia and Thailand.
- Increased military power and influence in the South China Sea leads to total invasion of the Spratly Islands by China and Vietnam. Over the years much additional oil wealth contributes to the PRC economy.

This is as far as I have got with the back story, which spans up until 1978.

Couple of handhelds (Strela or the like) would work just fine given their role.
