Imperial Regia Marina

The Regia Marina was the military navy of the Kingdom of Italy since its creation in 1861. When the Kingdom of Italy was officially created in March 1861, the former navy of the Duchy of Savoy was designated the Regia Marina and integrated the small naval forces of the other Italian states such as Tuscany and the Papal States. The baptism of fire of the Regia Marina took place in the battle of Lissa in 1866, in the background of the unification of Italy, where the Italian fleet was defeated by the Austro-Hungarian fleet. After this disaster, the Italian government managed to reform the Regia Marina and got the battleship Caio Duilio launched in 1881, followed the following year by the Enrico Dandolo. In 1896 the Italian navy began wireless telegraphy tests and in 1909 it carried out its first naval aviation maneuvers. During the Italo-Turkish War of 1911, the Italian fleet dominated the Mediterranean waters and the Turkish navy was defeated in the only two naval battles of the contest.

Entering World War II in June 1940, the Regia Marina was the fifth largest navy in the world, behind the United States, United Kingdom, Japan and France. However, this volume of ships was not consistent with their modernity, since, on the contrary, the Italian naval commands did not have a fleet capable of performing on the high seas or in night operations. Despite this, the increased number of Italian naval units caused the British Royal Navy to avoid engaging the Italian fleet during the first months of the fighting, until the Battle of Taranto turned the fight in favor of the British with the Adopting radar, the Italian Navy made an extensive effort to modernize 75% of its fleet as well as reinforce anti-aircraft units for its main carriers Aquila and Sparviero. With the invasion of North Africa by Italy with the help of the Afrika Korps of the Germans and Japan harassing the British Navy in the Middle East, Italy claimed the British colonies in the Mediterranean, the Italian Navy shined by the cover against potential incursions of the allies on the african coast with the end of the war and a german empire occupying europe, the italian navy was completely dedicated to protecting the italian protectorates of the italian kingdom, and the mediterranean seas, since 1960 the italian navy increased the power in its battleships taking advantage of the technological improvements brought by the postwar period and the dissolution of the Third Reich in 1976, the Italian navy dominated Europe until the resurgence of nations in 1990, where it began a long career that lasted until 2020 with the introduction of battleships. of increasing tonnage and length like battleships and supercarriers.

The Mediterranea-class nuclear-powered cruisers are a category of nuclear-powered and nuclear-capable ballistic missile-armed cruisers of the Imperial Italian Navy. They are the largest and heaviest surface combat ships in the world after the powerful BBN in service by the Regia Marina, discounting other types of ships such as aircraft carriers, Battleships or amphibious assault ships. Among modern warships, they are surpassed in size only by large aircraft carriers, they have capabilities similar to those of a battle cruiser but, being loaded with a considerable amount of nuclear weapons, they will never enter into direct combat against other ships of the same or smaller size. length. In total, there are four cruisers of this class for the Navy of which three are still undergoing modernization for different reasons. The most modern and currently in active use is the cruise ship Mediterranea and the leader of its class, it has been sailing since 1975 with a pause in its service from 1987 to 2001 due to serious failures detected in time in its original nuclear reactors type A1B of American origin, however With the rise of the navies of certain countries, the Italian naval power has been widely surpassed, although in constant rearmament by them, placing it in 6th place among the powers with the most military spending on earth.

R.N. Attilo Regolo (CG-45)

The helicopter cruiser Attilo Regolo has had a long useful life in the Italian Navy, originally intended to be a class of 6 ships designed specifically for anti-submarine warfare (ASW), it had only the first two ships of this with a role focused on this. ,and her remaining 4 sisters of the class starting with the Atiilo regolo and succeeding her sister ship Italia used as guided missile cruisers. This ship has the same general design as the smaller Andrea Doria class helicopter cruisers, but with a larger and more spacious hanagr, in its last modification in November 2015 the Italian Navy opted to modify its structure to have a more profile. modern and reinforced armor, as well as to improve its LPD capabilities, the cruiser had to be largely redesigned in order to guarantee compatibility with the most modern systems in service by the Italian Navy.

Italy, Marco Polo-Class

[ img ]

R.N. Marco Polo (R-22)
The Marco Polo-class carriers were ordered to complement air defense and assault operations as well as joint expeditionary force operations, maintaining the level of strength and capability of the Kingdom of Italy Navy after the older carriers were handed over. The ships were designed to be an improvement over previous Italian carriers, in particular carriers of the earlier classes, although the layout of these ships is relatively similar to that used on the German Erich Hartmann-Class and US Nimitz-class, Among other design improvements, the two reactors on the Marco Polo-class carriers take up less space than the eight reactors used on the Enterprise. Coupled with an overall improved design, this means the Marco Polo-class carriers can carry 90% more aviation fuel and 50% more war supplies when compared to the Erich Hartmann-class.

R.N. Aosta (BBN-48)

The Giulio Cesare class of modern battleships is a series of 6 nuclear-powered ships armed with Railgun-type weapons that complement the Italian fleet as part of the escort in battle groups of large Marco Polo-class aircraft carriers and in the form of support for amphibious landing units such as mobile naval artillery, its weapons based on the German Rheinmetal models (RHM-L/380) make this ship a lethal attacker, its precision-guided weapons are capable of hitting targets 700km away, its weapons are hypersonic, undetectable and non-interceptable, thanks to its 2 nuclear reactors it can fire its 9 cannons established in 3 turrets without problems, but it cannot maintain a speed beyond 15 knots while opening fire, they were the basis of the Italian development of Modern battleships to maintain Italian pride against proposals from countries like Germany and the United States with their respective weapons of similar size.

Italy, Andrea Doria-Class Batch II

R.N. Gabriele D' Annunzio (DDG-68)

The Andrea Doria class of missile destroyers is the first in the Royal Italian Navy to be designed and built around the Aegis Combat System and the new SPY-12E multifunction radar. The first ship of the class entered service on January 12, 1992. The new destroyers form part of the main line of defense of the Marco-polo-class carrier strike groups, becoming the only active destroyer class of For the Italian Navy, the ships were built in response to the American Arleigh Burke-class and German Altmark-class ships, as part of cooperation agreements between nations.

The Italian Navy began a modernization program for the Aandrea Doria class aimed at improving artillery pieces on destroyers, as a response to concern about larger ships among allies and potential adversaries. The new modernization program is designed to provide a further upgrade in the middle of the class's lifespan to improve the effectiveness of the destroyers in the face of new threats from countries that fight with speedboats.

Although these new ships seem to belong to a new class due to the great physical differences with their predecessors, the Italian imperial government discreetly hid them as Lot II of the Andrea Doria class so as not to further increase the negative opinions against the construction of this class. , given that its costs exceed 137 billion dollars, although among the final objectives of these new ships is the reduction in crew, increased combat effectiveness and reduced maintenance costs.

The new production units for lotre 2 start from the DDG-68 to the DDG-87, planned to end in 2026, at which time the new generation DDX destroyers will be docked. During the first phase of modernization, the hull and electronic systems as well as navigation, mechanical and electrical systems will be improved; while in the second phase, a new computer system is introduced, with open architecture in combat control. The expected result of this modernization will be improved ICBM ballistic missile defense and littoral combat capabilities.

Very nice from an artistic standpoint, I won't comment on the historical believability or accuracy since it's your AU and you can do what you want I suppose.
