Project 10590

The Project 10590 has always interested me since I first came across it. Few details are known, the project is estimated to date back to around 1985 and was an icebreaker guard ship intended for the KGB Border Guard. It is sometimes referred to as an ice patrol rescue vessel, but seems far more oriented to patrol than rescue duties. Its weapons and sensor fit is similar to the Project 1153.5 'Krivak III' built for the Border Guards around the same time; an AK-76 gun, 4x 30mm AK-360, 2x RBU-6000, 2x5 533mm torpedo tubes, 1x Osa ('Gecko') SAM launcher and 1x Kamov Ka-27 helicopter.

The drawing is based on only two sources; a line drawing originally from A.N. Sokolov's book and photograph of the official model of the design. The Sokolov drawing was very basic and incorrect in several ways compared to the model so has only been used as a basis with details taken from the model. Dimensions are unknown so the length is estimated from components etc. and may only be 90% accurate.

Exelent. Ive also tried to do this class, but the lack of dimensions have always hindered me from doing anything.

Awesome addition.
Without specific dimensions such estimations from components are unavoidable, and I'd say that for Never-were purposes their results are "entirely valid until proven otherwise".

Very interesting and great work. I know that Soviet/Russian designs don't always align neatly with Western classifications for naval vessels, but this "icebreaker-frigate" concept really is unique! Maybe the closest equivalent I can think of would be the Danish Thetis-class, although they are much smaller and lesser-armed vessels.

Well it looks like the model you can find on the WWW. So i quess its good then right? haha

Also fitting equipment to the scale, guess this should also be sufficient when nobody can get the dimensions.
Is the model btw publicly visitable?
Cause perhaps somebody can bring a measurer and measure it

No idea, I have only ever seen the one photograph and that has been floating around the web for years.
The Sokolov drawing is quite frankly, rubbish and has some serious errors in it, which is odd given that the model is so detailed. I think its the best that can be done unless more information comes out.
