And the OPV variant of Conon Mk3 series, called Zeus Mk3 Class (based on Salamis Mk2). Differences from the frigates are in armament (1 X OTO Melara 76/62, 2 X OTO Breda Dardo, 2 X Remote Control Turrets with 20mm Oerlikon), lack of missiles and simplified CMS Osiris Mk3/HCG. Gun targeting is provided by a Signaal MW22 and a Lyncheus Mk2D E/O sensor. She features ESM as several other HCG patrol vessels and has also space in stern for one 12m fast anti-smuggling vessel, capable of 65+kn or a Tethis Mk1 USV. Two 9m RHIB with provision for a EPK60 LMG (lisenced FN MAG) are also carried, or one RHIB and one USV Defender MkV. Finally, the SADA UAV landing system added in 2012. Finally, these two vessels have the capability of refueling at sea.
Due to lighter weight and 56,000 hp from 2 RR Olympus TM3B, 680 Class are the fastest Conon ships, with top speed nearly 35 kn and 33 kn sustained. Although designed for East Med, the 680 Class proved very succesful in Indian Ocean participating to Atalanta Force since 2000 occasionally and from 2006 full time.
Names of the 680 Class OPVs comes from the two first commanders of HCG in midwar period. Their length classifie them among largest patrol vessels in world.
"AK" is the prefix of all Hellenic Coast Guard patrol boats, equivalent to "CG". In hellenics, Coast Guard ="Ακτοφυλακή".
