Fitted for but not with, as they say. Makes sense.

Any air search radar by this point in the war? No US-looking systems, but I see UK-style yagis on the main battery director.

You need a 3-D radar for Terrier, e.g SPS-26 or SPS-39.
I used Giuseppe Garibaldi design as a source. I'll look for a space for a SPS-26.
Actually Garibaldi had early SPS-39 with SPS-26 antenna. I have search deep to it, because I plan to do a similar conversion to an heavy cruiser of my AU.

In her 1944 refit she received 40 40mm guns in quadruple mounts and the remaining 20mm guns were substituted by 14 twin mounts and two single mounts. She received new directors. In 1955 all light guns were removed to give space for eight Bofors L70 twin mounts. In her 1965 refit, all main guns were removed to gave space to a Terrier system, two Seacats quadruple launchers, an ASROC and two new 5' cannons. The original 5' mounts were substited by newer ones. For those critics of the American-British weapon mix, I remember the Araguaia destroyer class. They had an H Class British hull and American weapons and super structure design.

Everything now is all right. I used the Farragut as a source.

Cheers!

(Part of my upcoming Southern Victory-inspired AU which will be posted shortly and should answer any inevitable questions about the background)

The two-ship Maine-class fast battleships were the first battleships built by the United States Navy since the Oregon-class in 1916. While the Socialist administration initially opposed construction of more battleships, the USS Maine and West Virginia were authorized in response to rapid Confederate militarization.

USS Maine (BB-48) was assigned to the Atlantic Fleet throughout the entire Second Great War, where she served much of her time protecting convoy lines and engaging Entente fleets during the Battle of the North Atlantic. After the American recapture of Bermuda, the Maine took part in an attack on a joint Anglo-French fleet where a shell from her 16-inch guns scored a direct hit on the French battleship Jean Bart, penetrating the upper deck and triggering a magazine detonation. By the end of the war, Maine was involved in patrols along the CS coast, including the bombardment of Morehead City, North Carolina in 1944. She later served during the Second Pacific War from 1948 to 1950, guarding carriers and performing shore bombardment operations.

Maine-class specifications:
Laid down 1938, launched 1940
Length: 697' (overall), 684.5' (waterline)
Beam: 112'
Draft: 36'
Displacement: 42,131 t (standard)
Speed: Up to 28 kts
Armor:
  • 12" belt
  • 6" deck
  • 15" conning tower
Armament:
  • 9x 16"/45 Mk 6
  • 16x 5"/38 Mk 12
  • 12x 40mm Mk 2
  • Various 20mm and smaller
Aircraft: 2

Basically an amalgamation of sorts between the North Carolina and South Dakota classes

Very nice addition. Can't wait to see more. One thing though, since the Oregon was part of this class. If I remember correctly she had 14 inch guns. At least that's what George Enos Jr. Observed when he reported aboard the Oregon.

Frankly I completely forgot about that, changed it to be a two-ship class as a successor to the Oregon. I'll have this all ironed out by the time I post my thread :D

Didn't mean to criticize. I am very interested in this. I also know that a lot of people do like to read the series. The website alternatehistory.com has quite a few southern victory stories.

Will this challenge still be open for another week or so? (Still putting some finishing touches onto my entry.)
