This is just me, but I'm wondering if the Mk 26 could get a sponsoon. You could put on on either side then.

@ klag: won't fit. I can tell you that
@ blackbuck: keep an eye that the lower half of the egg as not that good an view forward right now, the STIR's block it a bit...
with an Mod 1 Mk 26, you might have to put the reloader underneath the flight deck, and I don't know if that fit's (check the missile length for that, you will need the lenght of the longest missile + a tiny bit as an approach to how much headspace you need.
watch out for old drawings, for now I spotted only the SM but there might be more...
the dardo's seem a bit much.

Of course it can fit, but it sounds like at a great sacrifice of flight and hangar deck space.

not on sponsons. the sponson would be so close to the waterline that you actually have an widening of the hull. this would have enormous strength issues, needing it to be larger still....

The deepest GMLS considered for any sponson was the Mk 11 on the JFK proposals (they would have been on the rear quarters). As for centraly located, I think it's probably best (if you can get it to work), simply because we know that CVA-1 was ableto stick the Sea Dart Launcher there.

an idea I had just now: I don't know what beam you have, but you might be able to fit an mod 2 transverse on the transom. you should check the cross section though, the stern is an surface that must be able to take waves so it has to be strengthened

Drawing updated with a rudimentary (and I do mean very rudimentary) top down view of the stern area. (Like hell am I going to do a full top view to the standard of the RN carriers, I don't have that much patience).

Aircraft: 1985-95: 2 Fighter squadrons with 10x F-15N2 Sea Eagles each, 3 strike squadrons with 10x AG-68 Buccaneers each, 1 patrol detachment with 4x S-2 Turbo Trackers, 1 AEW detachment with 4x E-1 Turbo Tracers (Searchwater), 1 COD / Tanking detachment with 4x KC-1 Turbo Traders and one helicopter detachment of 4-8x PH-212 ASW helicopters.

I've put quite a substantial amount of effort into this trying to get things right with existing systems before Atlantia really starts to go down the domestic systems route in the early 21st century (as has been illustrated previously).

~Regards, Mark.

I like her, and she's got a good airwing - the F-15s are enough for a CAP and an escort flight (constantly) and the three Buccaneer squadrons is quite a punch.

With both the Mk 26 and the Mk 29s, I'd imagine that ASROCs would make up a significant of the Mk 26 magazine space.
