Very nice. Maybe you should consider to use a grey, that is a bit darker. The prewar feldgrau uniforms that I have seen, use a Grey similar to the "Steingrau" of the uniforms of the east german Nationale Volksarmee.


I made some US Army Uniforms from 1861:
first line: full dress uniforms with stiff hat and epaulettes of a soldier and a Sergeant. The epaulettes came soon out of use in the field.
second line: Service and campaigne uniforms. The third uniform with the short jacket is a informal everyday uniform. Maybe more will follow.

I must say, that the US Army uniforms were a product of chilean uniforms of the pacific war, which I also drew and which are also very inspired by the french uniforms of that time.

Was the short "Monkey" style jacket also worn by the Cavalry of that time?

Glorfindel: Great work on the Civil War uniforms and thanks for the feedback. What I'm trying to do with the feldgrau is find a shade that is roughly the average of all the different shades, if you will. Depending on the type of unit and where the cloth was manufactured, the shade varied from almost pure gray to almost pure green. Also, these uniforms are from the beginning of the war when the color was more of a mid-gray. As the war progressed, the color became closer to green as the British blockade forced the textile mills to use worse quality, impure fabric.

I know of course that there is not "a fieldgrau" but many and that they changed during time. It is the same with the soviet M69 field uniform and the afghanka battle dress. They go from brown to Khaki. I think they got in general brigther with the war in Afghanistan. There are photographs from troops in afghanistan all wearing M69 uniforms but some in khaki and some in darker brown shades.

The cavalry wore a shorter jacket, but normally with yellow braids. If I have time, more civil war uniforms, also from cavalry, will follow.
