Added USS Phoenix in early-mid 1944. The only real change is the addition of two Bofors 20mm guns on the bow and two atop of turret #2.


Next up will be in late 44 to mid 1945, with a few extra 40mm and 20mm guns and the Measure 22 color scheme

No, no, no... there can't be any Mk.57 directors. Generally those were allocated 4 per heavy unit (CB, BB) and not until late 1944ish.

I would go with Mk.49s for the 1943 edition. They were certainly available and fitted to quite a large number of units surprisingly, until the Mk.51 became the de facto standard.

May I point out something? I didn't noticed it earlier, but the 5-inch guns appears to be the old oversized version.

Admittedly I had to dig a bit into the USN parts sheet thread since they are absent from the major sheet but this small snip originally posted by ThimotyC has a few versions of the correctly drawn 5-inch mount:

I have replaced the 5"/38 dual turrets and replaced the Mk 57 with the mk 49 on the 1943 and early 1944.

I am adding a late 1944 with the mk 51 replacing the mk 49 directors. Late 1944 also sees the addition of 4 more Oerlikons around the #2 funnel.

It's looking really good now!

Can we see a 1945 version with Measure 22, Mk.8 Mod.2 main battery radars, and maybe SP/SM height finder on the main mast?

Okay, here's the moment you've been waiting for, the USS Phoenix as she appeared during the invasion of Okinawa. In anticipation of heavy air resistance, and kamikaze attacks, the Phoenix was outfitted with an additional 4 quad Bofors 40mm guns, two fore, and two aft. The ship also recieved the SP/SM radar height finder on her mainmast. The Phoenix is now painted in the Measure 22 pain scheme.

I would add some more whips bracketed to the side of the funnels. By this point you'll also be seeing the standard late-war RCM fit, with DBM-1 antennas in radomes on a yard P&S of the main topmast, TDYa S-band jammers, a trainable TDY jammer assembly (probably on a new platform aft and below the SP platform on the mainmast?), and Sword receiver antennas shielded from the TDY placed on the front of the pilot house.

I can knock together a quick diagram when I get home from the office if you'd like... would be a useful training tool anyway.

Go ahead, I have yet to see the RCM fit of any of the old US cruisers, it's not as well documented as it is on the later cruisers and battleships.
