note that the engines of amphibs make up for most of the island these days: the in and uptakes do most for the size and shape. the flight deck control and bridge do the rest.

Well, once this guy figures out what he wants, I'd be happy to help draw his ship. I'd recommend a Wasp-class if he wants a well deck, and a (yuck) America class if he doesn't. Or, if he wants it real small, an Ocean, Canberra, or Mistral would do him just fine.

Self-Proclaimed . Seriously, I know alot about amphibs, particularly helicopter ships. I don't mean to offend anybody, just stating that I probably do know more about that subject than most people here. See my name, for starters.
