After the war the Royal Netherlands Navy was fast growing in numbers, and by 1955 world war two-vintage ships that where in a good enough shape, where given some extensive updates. The HNLMS Amsterdam (ex-Rotterdam) was also undergoing an upgrade. She was completly stripped from midships to stern, and a massive hangar and flightdeck where added to accomodate up to 6 helicopters. Her main guns where replaced by state-of-the-art fully automatic dual 6'' guns from Great Britain. Also her AA-suite was largely replaced by more modern Bofors 57mm guns. Holland Signaal was to deliver the new radars, also found on the Zeven Provincien Class cruisers.

You can not fit the twin bofors 57mm on top of the hangar, the guns has quite large magazine and other under deck facilites i almost sits on a barbette.

Can anyone tell me wich radars I have to use then? The fire directory's I have taken from HMS Tiger/Blake, and the radars in the 1937 version are from the Royal Netherlands Navy Sheet.

Psilander, can't it also be used there if it is in the middle of the hangar, sort of spliting the door area of the hangar in two. You quite often see 76mm's placed like this as well.

Overall, this has been a very interesting project, and it gets full marks for that. However............ :( ......the last, postwar modernisation is IMHO a step too far. I won't repeat other members critiques, but just point out that two of the 6-in automatic mounts forward would a) not even fit, and b) would not have been purchased, when the Royal Netherlands Navy already had a longstanding policy of using Bofors mounts.

I sort of agree with you PB. I'll remove the latest one, and keep it for my personal archive. The other two will be updated with the corrected radars, as soon as I know which one to use.

For the 1937 version no radars at all.
Royal Navy radars for 1941 are Type 79 air search radar (on both nain and fore masts) and Type 286 for surface search, both can be foun in the Royal Navy parts Here. Fire control for 6" guns is Type 284 and secondary fire control was Type 285, also from the above mentioned parts sheet. Of course that's assuming you are using Royal Navy systems.
For the 1957 you can use Dutch systems like those the De Ruyter cruiser De Ruyter and destroyer Friesland

The installation a 57mm turret, with gyrostabilsators and reloading room above the elvators and magazine. I dout there will be a good idea to fit the mount on top of the hangar.

I would use the Philips "egg" radar for both primary and secondary directors as on my similar aviation cruiser.
