lol ok my next question is this (sorry for so many but this is why i made i made such a thread and if anyone else would like to post there questions in here feel free)
If you are desgning a treaty crusier for 8in guns what nation build the best between the UK France the United States (range wise my research said france and who built the best 5.9in, 6in, or 6.1 in guns in general any answers or discussion is much appreciated as always
The USN built cruisers for both range and crew comfort that other nations didn't design for because they didn't need (Range was to get the ship to the fight over the long Pacific distances, while crew comfort and sea keeping were there to make sure the ship could fight well once it got to the fight).

Honestly the answer to this question is going to be based on whoever happens to be the best salesman on that particular day. Though IIRC S1850M is either an improved version of SMART-L or simply the Thales brand name for their particular APAR set (APAR is a broad classification of radar type, not a specific set or brand). Or maybe Sampson is the Thales brand name for their APAR set; either way the combinations you listed are both Thales and one or the other would be available.
S-1850 is the licenced production version of the SMART-L. the differences are mainly in parts which can be produced in britain and things like that. specification wise it is about the same.
SAMPSON is not build by thales.

just wanted to see that corrected ;)

"The S1850M is derived from the SMART-L radar in a cooperation structure with Alenia Marconi Systems (AMS). This program concerns the French and Italian Horizon frigates and the Type 45 Destroyers for the English Navy. All in all, twelve systems will be produced with identical configurations. The S1850M is a bit different from the SMART-L. It has a slightly higher rotation speed, improved anti-jamming capabilities, a flexible signal processor and local consoles are used.
Together with the seven SMART-L systems for the Netherlands and German navies, the Thales SMART-L/S1850M has become the de facto standard volume search radar of the European NATO navies."

USN cruisers also sometimes sacrificed protection and were top-heavy as a result of trying to sacrifice as little as possible, but they were still good gun platforms. And of course the USN was the only Allied nation to build post-Treaty heavy cruisers in numbers.

Can you use RAM in a limited anti-aircraft roll
I read that it has limited anti-helicopter and aircraft capability
Is this true and if so how capable/limited is it?

Well, RAM can certainly shoot down supersonic missiles in flight, so I don't think it's a stretch to see it hitting aircraft or helicopters.

The Block 1 missiles can take a software upgrade to work (better) against aircraft.

The RIM-116 falls nicely between MANPADs (like Stinger) and longer ranged (but still relatively short range) missiles like the RIM-7. This is partly from the 5" diameter body (Stinger is 70mm, Sea Sparrow, 8 inches).

SeaRAM (which replaces the Vulcan cannon of the Phalanx mount with an 11 round RAM magazine) has the advantage of not needing external guidance.

Alright sorry to revive an old thread but it is mine...
For a modern day frigate what is a recommended radar set to go with? Excluding Aegis and it has to be able to guide american missile and if possible more then ESSM (SM-1 and SM-2). Also I will hopefully finally be posting some drawings in the near future and I was wondering what the most preferable image host is. Thank you for any responses
