These nets are used in ships anchored in naval bases for protection from airborne radars (from Maritime Patrol Aircraft or helicopter). Real Hellenic Navy use them also and has also an anti-IR net as far as I know from our defense matters magazines.
We never used those nets on any deployements, I even think that they where regular army cammo nets painted in Navy grey instead of IR protection, they where hampering the weapons arcs of fire and stood in the way of the .50 mounts,some of those where completely covered by those nettings
