Holy smokes! Now I have to dig my jaw out of the basement.

Actually, my dear odysseus, it should be a Byzantine dromon, but it's not. If you study the image more carefully, the Greek heraldic master (who ever he was/is?!) chose, instead, a depiction of a large Hellenistic polyrem i. e. multi-banked oared vessel, but substituted the square sails most commonly found on such vessels with a more 10th c. contemporaneous sail rig consisting of lateen sails. Hence the odd mixture. But I never said it was bad or anything, just that it was odd, but that's a comment on the choice of imagery.... Kim as usual did a most superb job!

We are currently discussing in the Adm. section about renewing our templates to field proper space and size for the crests in the templates, as soon as we get something out, I'll post the offical dimension requirments here. We try our best to fit most of the existing smaller crest to the mould, but the bigger ones migth be in "danger"
You can also inturupt this as an open invitation of making your own suggestions of the crest's place and size in the template sheets.

I'm not in favour of cluttering up drawings with house flags, funnel bands, or whatever detracts from the drawings; and no offence to Alvama, but his otherwise excellent Great Lakes ships look too clutterred with all the added stuff as above. maybe we need a new Forum, were folk can post and discuss ships crests, flags, etc. so as not to loose the way here?

I have to agree with Bill. Although a coat-of-arms or ship's badge could be a nice touch, overloading drawings with stuff related to the ships' owners seems kind of wrong
