I still find it stupid you did not put on mooring rings.
But hey, if you want to snap of your railing every time you moor. Good luck with it!
You might also cut off the legs of your sailors as well, but you got enough of them i quess.

;)

uhm... there are mooring rings, but they are smaller then you think. (those black twin-T's)

I am trying to make an ship with an similar setup as the Kiev class, but with an different role. this is the first 'aircraft carrier' utopia builds, and is in fact an cruiser up front and an aircraft carrier to the stern/side. it has only limited capabilities, but it is again an experimental ship, only build in small numbers, and with every one of the 4 ships improved and changed from the previous one.

I would like comments on it though, as I don't know if I can fit the hangar below deck ( 2 centreline elevators would be fitted, as the deck is too close to the waterline to fit at the deck edge).... or that I can better put the aircraft in an hangar in the structure.
aircraft carried on board should be about 5-6 light fighters and 3-4 helicopters (of which 2 should be at least NH-90 sized)

just to make clear: the hull is a lot wider then the original drawing I used here (the elvira class) and will be changed, especially the underwater hull.... this is just WIP......

also, suggestions on the radar layout? the first one (which I will draw first, of course) will be commissioned in 1999. options I have now are:
SEAPAR + SMART-S
SMART-S + STIR + LW08
APAR+ SMART-L
or something similar to the HERAKLES radar.

fixed wing, initially even CATOBAR. this isn't an succes though, so it is changed to VTOL.... and later, when the VTOL's are phased out, they only carry tiltrotors and helicopters.

I started again on the camelot

detailing is still far away (I am now working on the aircraft which go on board) but it is beginning to look like my initial ideas.
btw, anybody has an idea how to launch 'heavier' aircraft? better add an extra (long) catapult at the landing deck, or to make long take-off run without catapults (or with extra long catapult) on the bow?

Possibly combine a more powerful catapult with a jump. Not the massive Hermes / Kuznetsov but along the length of the catapult so it's being catapulted at an upwards angle anyway?
