I'm a little late to the party but I actually think that in this day and age what you guys over the lake are doing is quite impressive. This is a time where excluding the U.S., the only large carriers are rusty unreliable Soviet ones undergoing desperate modernizations and an extremely flawed French white elephant. If you forget about the past glory days of the RN for a second, for the UK to get this far considering how many defense projects and procurements are either canceled or reduced I think is actually a small miracle.

One big carrier is considerably more effective than two small ones and I believe that 25-35 F-35Bs is still hell of a potent air wing and probably the best in the world outside of the U.S. If and when PoW becomes commissioned the RN will be as potent as it has been in quite some time.

Considering her track record I really can't see how you'd consider the Charles de Gaulle a white elephant.

I was referring to the debacle of her earlier years and assorted problems such as the fact that internal flow is not good, supply of munitions is difficult, she has a max speed of 23.5 knots in actuality, as well the poor electronic and island configurations. She has a myriad of designs flaws and restrictions.

I admit White elephant was maybe not the best word choice , but I believe she was one for quite some time at the least.
