Hear, hear, Hood. Your proposition is seconded!

As Hood so rightly said the archive is the most important asset we have. People for whatever reason come and go.
I am proud of my elite member status but support the idea to scrap all titles and make us all equal. Those of us that actually draw know who the true elites are whether they have the title or not anyway. The praise and comments from fellow artists should be enough to stroke our fragile artists egos. This move would also have the benefit of taking away any resentments when one artist gets promoted over another and remove another problem.
I would like to thank all of the responsible moderators for their service over the years and the admins for taking these steps to preserve the future of shipbucket.

Yes, people should remember that this forum is just tool of discussion between us shipbucketteers. Beeing a member is not the purpose itself, beeing a drawer and artist is. Hood is in rigth track, and its nice to hear that our "british gentlemen" -fraction appears to be close to what I've visioned SB to be.
The new features will change the uploading and archiving work more member based system, and managing it and working to make everyone's drawings up to uploadable standards has enough work for anyone who is intressed, without looking age, post-counts and colorfull usertitles.

Yes, the system that we have in mind will ideally allow users to upload their work to the site themselves, where it will then be approved for publication by a select group of authorized "super users" - who will carry no additional rights other than approver status on the website (don't get your hopes up). ;)

It's still under construction but give us some time and I think you'll all enjoy it.

As please as I was when I had my "Elite" status, I can readily give it up for the best interest of this forum. As already mentioned by peers the drawing archive is what Shipbucket is all about. So, enough politics and let's resume drawing ships.

I honestly don't see how a coloured user title imposes some sort of superiority to others. If someone is silly enough to think someone with an orange title is a demi god then so be it. I don't imagine things will change one bit if we loose them.

on the contrary to what the popular opinion is here, I myself see the elite and premium memberships as an mark of recognition. not of power, or knowledge, or skill, but of doing something useful to sb. it has always been something I've worked for a bit.... of course, I like drawing ships, and draw them as good as possible, but getting and keeping the higher status of an elite membership is something that drives me and keeps me in check.

There have been some cases where the (former)staff and us admin. have spotted mild indications that some few isolated members in these rank groups have posed as somewhat better than the rest of the members becouse of their colored ranks. These cases have been rather rare, and usually just side-notes on something more important issue that has required us to supervice the discussions in here and in the IRC channel. Those instances have not been what we deem as "severe" to cause any diciplinary actions, rather more like amusment to us, but it has raised the issue to discussion.

I myself used to saw them as well as reward we gave to the good artist and long time members, so naturally If we would choose to loose them, means some sort of failure in our innocence and honest trust. The idea of premium-elite-FD master user groups has not been as a hierarchy to step into that would (have) ultimately lead in the (now gone) staff group, but I couldn't have helped to notice that some members have thougth it to be that way, sort of like Elite-membership would suffices as "one of the people who are directly underneath the moderating team in rank"(sic)...
This has never been the case. The former idea of moderators and staff was completely tied to the Forum and its functionality purposes, where as the ranks basicly just told how "good or long timed" artist you were. Beeing elite member was never a requirment when we choose the mods, and some of the former moderators whom are now elite-members sort of just gained that title as reward from their services. When we choose the mods, usually the requirment was "sensible, responsiple adult with good sense of justice" ...So one of the reasons why I've now become to think we could loose the memberranks is to get people out of the thinking that there are some ladders in SB that you can rise into power. All power in community like this should rest with in the community. And the technical "power" -or more like responsibility in the forum and internet-domain name into those who paid them.

Also. I've been around in the bucket before the google-groups and the first forum, and looked around the proplems we have had in the community from the top spot for long... and vast majority of them seems to be focusing around using malice intentention from personal disputes disquised as "critisism" or "moderation". Usually some sort of artifical "Im better than you" type of hierarchy has been flawor of those wrong doings, and thus I feel that if equality can solve some of these proplems, then we should aim towards as much equality as we possibly can.

Well it still remains to be seen if making us all equal makes us equal but I can see where you're coming from with regards to people getting a chip on their shoulder from having the titles.

I would suggest some sort of scheme to differentiate between people that have been here forever and a day from the newer people (not just by looking at the joined bar) if only for aforementioned newer people to have an idea of who to ask for help. That said it'd probably end up in the same situation we're in now...

Beeing here forever doesen't automatically suffices good teacher 8-) And what I've observed, its usually the same 10 or so people who are anyways helping those in apparent need of helping, and they seem to spur from normal members to elite, and from 0-4 years of experience, and various level of (subjective)skill in drawing. So I don't see reason or even a purpose to place them into some cathegory, in just sake of cathegorising. My idea of SB (and what it used to be in the days I joined) was that everyone who wants, can help and participate, and that doesen't just mean help the newbies, but also help the SB in offering to work on uploads and so. What I don't want is people to think that they wouldn't be worthy of giving their input or idea that only some people can give that input.

I know it migth appear to some a somesort of chaos or fear of loosing quality, when everyone is helping everyone even when need of little help of themselves, but trust me, It wouldn't be proplem. The ultimate quality control have always vested upon MConrads, Me and Colo in the past, and its been remarkable that we've actually have to even expose this "controll" above anyone. I don't even remember last time I've rejected something from the uploads. So I see no reason why the exelent quality of SB wouldn't remain in the future either. Now i just see that people migth be more willing to spread this quality. Atleast they are given the opportunity.
