Following approaches from Beijing in November 1972 a BAC sales team left for China to discuss the purchase of VC10s by the Chinese Government which was dissatisfied with its Russian built Ilyushin IL-62s. After this visit the Chinese Government placed an order for 20 Super VC10s, with this 20 orders the production line would remain open until 1972. Total sales then surpassed the 80 airframes and Vickers managed to recover its investment over the life of the VC10’s production.

(Ironically this almost happened in real life) :(

Vickers VC.10 Super V.1150 British Airways

Vickers Super VC.10 V.1200 Varig
In 1966 satisfied with its new VC10s and with a constant increase in passenger traffic and also competition from other airlines, Varig asked Vickers for a new VC10 with greater capacity and longer range than the Super VC10. As luck would have it Vickers had developed a long range higher capacity variant of the VC10 in 1960 for PAN AM although this negotiations didn’t end in any orders for the VC10. The engineers at Vickers decided to dust off the old design for PAN AM and make some changes so they could offer it to Varig. Even though Varig had a large VC10 fleet by 1966 composed of 8 Standard and 6 Supers with a further 8 Supers on order, the new variant faced a surprisingly aggressive competition from the Douglas which was offering their new stretched DC-8s. In November 1966 after extensive and difficult negotiations Varig ordered 15 of the new variant now known as the Super VC.10 V.1200, with the first aircraft delivered in May 1967.

Thanks for comments, i had been planning to do the BA livery for a while since its one of my favourite paint scheme and the VC10 is one of my favourite airliners.

Vickers VC.10 Super V.1150 Czechoslovak airlines
In 1965 Czechoslovak airlines entered into negotiations to purchase six Supers but due to Soviet pressure they had to accept the inferior although superficially similar Ilyushin IL-62s. In March 1966 BAC chartered a Super VC10 from BOAC for a demonstration to Czechoslovak Airlines in Prague. After the demonstration took place the airline cancelled its order for the IL-62 against the desires of the Soviets and placed an order for six Super VC10s with the first aircraft delivered in 1969 becoming the first long-range jet airliner to be put into operation by CSA. CSA operated a fleet of 21 VC10s between 1969 and 1997 including 15 Super VC10s and six Standard VC10s, 15 of which were registered under the OK designation and six being leased from British Caledonian and BOAC.
