What if Germany initially accepted the F-4F single seater?

I hope you guys can handle this, it is a double shot of Rome.

The first is the Type 51 tank. It was a competitor to the Type 50. Compared to the Type 50, the 51 is much larger, has thicker armor and is as a consequence, much slower. The type 50 had a top speed of 65 km/h, with an armor of 100mm at the front of the hull and 150mm at the turret, the Type 51 has 153mm armor at the front hull, and 214 on the turret, with a top speed of 50 km/h. Both tanks has a 105mm rifled gun. Despite it`s bulky appearence, the Type 51 was quite manouverable, it`s acceletartion was also very good, thanks to its 1000 hp engine, compared to the 850 hp engine of the Type 50. Though the Type 50 won the competition because of it`s speed, much more reliable and accurate gun, the Type 51 did gather a lot of interest from foreign countries, some even made derivaties of the design.



The second design is the Type 55. It was developed in the mid 80s to replace the aging fleet of Type 50s. Many Type 50 tanks would server til the mid 90s, as a shorttime solution whilst the Type 55 entered full production. It is larger, but still it is faster and more manouverable, due to the 1500hp diesel engine. Top speed was 75 km/h on roads, and 50 offroad. The tank is armed with a smootbore 120mm gun, though the same gun as the upgunned Type 50s, the Type 55 is more effective with the gun, seeing as it was developed from the start with the gun in mind. The armor was layered with deffernt types of steel, ceramic and composite materials to create a very effective armor. The tank was feared from Romes competitors, some nations did adopt it for their own armies, despite the hefty price tag.

The double just turned triple. Here is the upgraded Type 50. The decision was made in 1982 to undertake a substantial upgrade of the Type 50s. Using technology from a discontinued project to replace the Type 50, the Type 50 ended up looking very little like it old self. A new 120mm smoothbore gun was added, and the turret was replaced. The hull was also upgraded, with modern composites replacing the old steel armor. The engine was replaced with a new 1000 hp engine, to counteract the 6 tons of weigth added to the same transmission and to keep the top speed the same. The upgrade did buy the tank another 15 years of service, making the Type 50 one of the most successful Roman tanks.

Minor niggle, but why on earth would you fit a shoulderstock on an M2 in a vehicle mounting?

It makes it more accurate to aim.

Not really a primary concern with something like that, keeping your collar bone in one piece however is indeed a primary concern.

Then having no MG is the only alternative.

Not really, especially when you're sitting in a hatch that restricts your movement.
And frankly, if you're in a situation where you need to aim carefully it might be time you started using those nice big stabilized guns you're carrying around under armour.
