Well, there's certainly some merit to the idea. But the Shipbucket style grew out of recognition handbooks, where features may be exaggerated or modified somewhat for clarity. That's why our gun barrels and missile launchers are a bit overscale, all railings are presented in an identical style, and why shading is very simplistic. It's meant to convey an understanding of the shape and configuration of the ship, not be photorealistic. How best to achieve that has certainly been the subject of many conversations, and the style has evolved considerably over time.

There is only one level of shading allowed in shipbucket style. (I presented it rather clearly in the orginal post of this thread)
The thing presented there breaks away from the style in quite horrible porpotions.
