Btw. - just out of curiosity - why a standard for FD aircraft is to draw them with retracted gear? (I'm not complaining, it's just interesting)

Well, I don't mean it's a formally written standard (because I don't think FD scale has them at all), but some 95% of the aircraft in FD scale that have retractable gear are drawn with that gear retracted.

I'm guessing it's because it's easier. Plus there may not be sufficient sources available for some of the more obscure planes.

Also I would hazard a guess is that a lot of FD aircraft are of the "tail dragger" configuration. Drawing them with the gear down would only look natural if depicted as they would be on the ground, requiring almost a complete redraw of the image to make it look right.

Modern aircraft with trike gear however are generally far easier to draw with gear down, unless they have an obvious angle on the gear (like the Skyhawks).

To my knowledge, most of the Gear down views, with WW2 aircraft, are done at an angle. That's why I never draw them that way.

Yeah, what Nighthunter said seems to be the case most of the time. I only draw gear-down when it's fixed that that way. :P

Personally, I tend to include undercarriage when possible, if I have a good reference for it. The angle of the original draing is not a problem, as it is easy to correct in photoshop or similar software. If I do include it, I tend to do one with and one without.

I'm not calling for drawing taildraggers in tail-down position or anything like that (and it wasn't the question). After all, there is nothing that would make it physically impossible to fly level with landing gear down and I saw plenty of drawings of them in level (flight) position. Nor am I advocating addding the "ground level" line between the wheels.
I just asked "what was the rationale of the person/people that started that "drawing without extended landing gear" rule".
