I think it would be reasonable to look both at Invincible as well as, say, Malta and CVA-01, and not include any feature that at least one of those three did not have.

Ok, I'm gonna loose both. Self escorting would have been a a bit risky in the Cold War sub infested atlantic (one of her roles would have been Atlantic ASW duties, this was a major part of the Invincibles job but in my version of events the invincibles were sold off) with a several £bn asset, in the ASW role so yes she probably will have a number of supporting escorts with her, so Helicopter's should sufice

as she was commissioned in 1991, bow thrusters and sonars deleted and retractable fins installed.

a what if had the government ordered a home grown fighter/bomber in the mid to late 90's.

following a big refit in 2012 ready for the F35, Seawolf system replaced with Mk41 sylver launcher and Aster missile system, new mast and radar systems installed.

just a note, Mk 41 and Sylver are 2 competing systems, and are not compatible directly :P the missiles are though.
but. sea wolf is a lot smaller then all but the smallest SYLVER launcher, and I would suspect an replacement with those new missiles currently in development for the type 23 and 26.

Will do soon.

EDIT: as promised here's a top view based on my 2001 version with a home grown plane as of 2005 assuming the RN would purchase the V-22.

will do a top view of 1991 and 2013 when i've drawn the top view of the refitted bridge and have reliveried the top view of the harrier II into RAF green.

For a ver. 2.0 of WW2 carriers, I'd rather start of with Audacious than Centaur (If CVA-01 is not achievable) However, they are still very well made!

After a lot of discussion and tweeking and redesigning, about the only thing left in common with the original Centaur class is Names........

I am still working on this I'm currently designing some escorts for her, my story is based on the RN having somewhat of a renaissance following the Faulklands war and a rebuild up the type of strength the 60's RN enjoyed but with modern 1980's / 1990's equipment.

I am working on replacements for the Tiger class cruisers as rebuilt as Helecopter carrying command cruisers, what would a new missile cruiser design have looked like.... I am trying to design something that looks very 1990's British.....
