Good looking Atlantis but she had two propellers (as was written by Bernahrd Rogge in his book, translated into English and called "Under Ten Flags").
Also the Atlantis never carried the Arado seaplane but the Heinkel He.114, which gave dissponting performances (also from same book).

While I have no pictures of Atlantis/Goldenfels' screw - note my use of the the singular - all the other ships in her class had only one shaft, and I can prove that photographically.

Pinguin/Kandelfels had only one shaft as well, as you can see the tip of the propeller in this photo:

O.K guys. I was mistaken. Bernhard Rogge wished for two propellers and got only one. You can blame that on my age :|

It's very rare, even today, for a freighter to have more than one shaft. It's just not necessary.

The Danish East Asiatic Line build a series of containerships back in the mid-seventies with three engines. They were some of the first fast containerships.
The yanks will probably know one of them, M/S Selandia, as USNS Gilliland (T-AKR 298)
